CCPA Purchasing Partners and Merck would like to notify members that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued updated recommendations for hepatitis A virus (HAV) catch-up vaccination.

The CDC now recommends that all unvaccinated persons 12 months through 18 years old should complete the 2-dose series. Patients who previously received one dose at age 12 months or older should receive a second dose at least six months after the first.

Recent studies have shown that a significant proportion of adolescents and children in the U.S. who received a first dose of HAV vaccine never received the second dose.

Current recommendations for the HAV vaccination can be found at www.cdc.gov/vaccines or at www.aap.org/immunization.

If you would like to discuss this and other resources, please contact your Merck vaccine representative or the Merck Vaccines Customer Center at 877.VAX.MERCK (877.829.6372).
