CCPA Purchasing Partners (CCPAPP) and McKesson would like to provide our members with McKesson's most recent updates and customer letters in regards to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lab Testing Update

The landscape around testing related to COVID-19 is changing rapidly. Please read the McKesson Customer Letter Dated April 24, 2020  regarding lab testing methods and current tests that are available to our members.

PPE Supply Update

As members are aware, the demand for personal protective equipment (PPE) has never been higher. In March 2020, McKesson received orders for over six times the number of masks usually ordered per month prior to COVID-19. They worked diligently to fulfill nearly half of those orders, delivering three times more masks to providers.

As demand continues to outpace supply for the foreseeable future, McKesson continues to work to identify new sources of PPE and advocates for increased production. By closely monitoring demand and usage by customer type and receiving guidance from FEMA and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, McKesson is regularly enhancing its allocation strategy. Additionally, McKesson continues to make improvements to sustain supply and source as much product as possible that meets quality standards, ultimately bringing more inventory to market.

Members can search specific product availability on McKesson SupplyManager. For more information, including their new sources of PPE and efforts to price monitor products, please review the latest  McKesson Customer Letter Dated April 29, 2020. Please also review McKesson's Resource Hub for Coronavirus Updates for more information.

Support of CDC Recommendations

Lastly, McKesson encourages its customers to review the strategies outlined by the CDC in order to optimize the supply of PPE and equipment during this shortage and support as many patients as possible for as long as possible:

  • Consider using intact PPE that is beyond the manufacturer-designated shelf life
  • Carefully prioritize PPE use for selected care activities
  • Consider alternative approaches to reduce the risk of healthcare personnel exposure

See the full recommendations from the CDC here.
